

Professor Uche Azikiwe was born on 4th February 1947 to the family of late Sgt. Major Chief Lawrence Alu Azu Ewah (Omerienyi-mini) and Madam Florence Ugo Ewah of Ezi-Akani Compound, Ukpa Villages, Afikpo. While growing up, she was known as Nwata Uche Omerienyi and Uche Alu Inya. She attended Queen of the Rosary Secondary School, Nsukka, (1965-67); and Holy Child Secondary School, (Sharon), Abakaliki, (1970-71). In 1977, she was admitted to study Education/English at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka from where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Education/English, a Master in Education/Curriculum Studies, another Master in Sociology of Education/Gender Studies, and finally a Ph.D in Sociology of Education/Gender Studies in 1992. Dame Uche Azikiwe was promoted to the rank of a Professor in 2002, in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; and it is the crowning glory to her lifetime in academics.
Prof. Uche Azikiwe has attended over 100 national and international conferences/workshops where she presented scholarly papers. She has also attended the following management courses abroad: Chief Executives Programmes at IMD, Switzerland (2001); Management School, London, (2002); Center for International Cooperation/Golda Meir International Training Center, Haifa, Israel, (2004); and Harvard Business School, Boston, MA, USA (2005). She has published five (5) books and over eighty (80) monographs, book chapters and articles in national and international journals, in her area of specialization and interest.
Dame Uche Azikiwe was inducted into the Order of the Knight of St. Paul, KSP, by Bishop Jonah Ilonuba of the Diocese of Nsukka, Anglican Communion in 1998. She is also a recipient of the National Award of the Order of the Member of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, MFR, in 2000. Dame Azikiwe has over twenty (20) other awards and honours from religious and social organizations in her kitty: Exemplary Mother Award, Nigerian Women for Family Growth, Washington, DC; Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary Club International; Mother of Faith, Ezinne and Oke Ada-Ehugbo by Bishop Udogu of Diocese of Afikpo, to mention a few. Professor Azikiwe took the Chieftaincy Title of Enyi Nwonaku of the Prestigious Otu Odu Society of Onitsha in 1993.
